Shared Costs, Shared Benefits: Russell's Road and Utility Project

Ongoing construction in Russell is currently focused on upgrading vital infrastructure, including utility lines. This project also extends to a section of County Road 15, which serves as Russell's First Street.

Lyon County commissioners recently approved a partnership with the city of Russell to share the costs related to the improvements on County Road 15. This agreement covers both the construction and engineering expenses for the portion of the road between County Road 31 and County Road 66.

As part of the infrastructure update, new water lines will be installed beneath County Road 15. The county had previously postponed road maintenance to coordinate this work with the city's project. Under the agreement, both the county and the city will split the costs for the road's mill and overlay work.

To accommodate the construction, a temporary detour has been set up, redirecting traffic around the affected area of County Road 15. The detour is expected to remain in place for several weeks, with traffic rerouted onto County Roads 2, 13, and 66.

Lyon County Allocates Funds to Safeguard Road from Erosion in Amiret

Erosion from a nearby stream is posing a significant threat to a gravel road in Amiret Township, prompting swift action from Lyon County. This week, the County Board approved using buffer enforcement funds to stabilize the streambank and protect the roadway.

The project will focus on reinforcing two sections of the streambank near 330th Avenue in Section 15 of Amiret Township. The proposed work includes installing riprap along 135-foot and 145-foot segments to prevent further erosion, with the total cost estimated at $32,500.

Over the years, erosion has worsened due to the loss of trees along the stream, bringing the water dangerously close to the road. The planned stabilization efforts aim to secure the road's foundation and prevent further damage.

Additionally, a utility pole located near the streambank may need to be relocated in the future, though this is not part of the current project.

The County Board agreed to fund up to 90% of the project, totaling $29,295, using buffer enforcement funds.
