Fatal DUI Crash Involving Minnesota Teens Leads to ICE Detainer

A detainer has been filed by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for a Honduran national facing charges in connection with a fatal wrong-way crash that claimed the lives of two Minnesota teenagers.
Noelia Saray Martinez-Avila has been charged in Dane County Circuit Court with two counts of homicide by use of a vehicle.
Authorities allege she was driving under the influence while traveling the wrong way on a Wisconsin interstate, resulting in a collision that killed a 19-year-old man from Clara City and an 18-year-old woman from Montevideo.
Martinez-Avila has prior convictions in Wisconsin for driving under the influence and operating a vehicle without a license. ICE filed the arrest detainer on Sunday as legal proceedings continue.
Vesta Celebrates 125 Years with Weekend of Music, Food, and Family Fun

The City of Vesta is gearing up for a milestone celebration as it marks its 125th anniversary with a full weekend of events on August 1 and 2. Residents and visitors can expect two days packed with live music, games, local food, and family-friendly entertainment.
Festivities begin Friday evening at 5 p.m. in City Park, where attendees can enjoy live music by Alan Lang and a DJ set by Bob from 7 to 10 p.m. A community pageant starts at 7 p.m., alongside classic games, inflatables, and a beer garden hosted by the Lions. The city council will be handing out free popcorn, and highlights of the evening include Night Out with the Fireman and a fireworks display presented by Flashing Thunder. Food offerings will feature Farmer Joe’s broast beef and treats from Purple Cow soft serve ice cream.
Saturday kicks off with a city-wide medallion hunt and food trucks at the park. The day will feature a wide range of activities, including a craft and vendor show, car show, kickball and sand volleyball tournaments, bouncy houses, and performances by Zoo Man. The pedal pull begins at noon.
Inside the community center, visitors can explore the MN Fallen Heroes and museum displays throughout the day, with free bingo scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. The Grand Parade rolls out at 4 p.m., followed by root beer floats served at St. John’s Church.
Evening festivities move uptown with additional food vendors, a bean bag tournament at 7 p.m., and live performances from Benjamin Raye & The Empire Players and Urbandale Lane, wrapping up the celebration at midnight.
The anniversary event is organized by the Vesta Booster Club and Vesta Lions Club. Additional event details and updates can be found on the celebration’s Facebook page.
