Highway 7 Crash Sends Two to Hospital with Life-Threatening Injuries

Two individuals are in critical condition after a three-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon in Chippewa County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The collision took place around 1:27 p.m. on Highway 7 near the intersection with County Road 6. A 2018 Chevy Silverado was heading westbound, while a 2006 Pontiac Montana was traveling eastbound.
Meanwhile, a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander was parked on the shoulder of the highway when the crash occurred.
The impact left both the driver of the Silverado, 52-year-old Jeffrey Scott Wicht of Dawson, and the driver of the Pontiac, 44-year-old Patrick Michael Lundberg of Clara City, with life-threatening injuries.
They were transported to Montevideo Hospital for treatment. Authorities reported that neither Wicht nor Lundberg were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, 25-year-old Jordan Ann Kabisch of Montevideo, was not injured.
Responding agencies included the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, Montevideo Fire and EMS, Maynard Fire and First Responders, and Clara City Fire and Ambulance. The crash remains under investigation.
Cyclists Complete 250-Mile Ride Across Minnesota, Raise Over $500K for MS

Hundreds of cyclists returned to Marshall’s Red Baron Arena on Friday to mark the end of the 2025 Ride Across Minnesota, a five-day, 250-mile fundraising journey in support of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Approximately 280 riders crossed the finish line after spending the week pedaling across southwest Minnesota, with the event raising more than $500,000 to help fund research and support services for individuals living with multiple sclerosis (MS).
The ride began in Marshall on Monday and included overnight stops in Granite Falls and Willmar before returning to its starting point.
The 2025 event saw participation from 34 teams, with Toni’s Trekkers leading the fundraising efforts by contributing over $110,000.
Cyclists of all ages and experience levels took part, many of whom return year after year for the cause, the camaraderie, and the personal connections they’ve built through the ride.
Among the participants were multi-year riders inspired by family connections and longtime veterans who have supported the event for decades.
While the number of cyclists on some teams has declined over the years, the sense of community remains strong, particularly during the nightly campsite gatherings that have become a hallmark of the event.
Despite a rainy start on Monday that briefly delayed the ride’s kickoff, the weather cooperated enough for cyclists to complete their routes safely.
Riders began arriving at the Red Baron Arena by late morning on Friday, greeted by cheers from supporters and community members who gathered to celebrate the finish.
The Ride Across Minnesota is part of the larger Bike MS initiative hosted by the National MS Society. Funds raised support ongoing research and provide resources for those affected by MS, a chronic neurological condition that disrupts communication between the brain and the rest of the body.
While there is currently no cure, advances in treatment have helped slow the disease’s progression for many patients.
