Marshall Woman Admits to Stealing Over $95K from Employer

A Marshall woman accused of embezzling tens of thousands of dollars from a local business has entered a guilty plea, canceling her upcoming jury trial.
Rikki Lee Kor, 50, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Lyon County District Court to five counts of check forgery and one count of financial transaction card fraud. The charges stem from an investigation into her actions while employed as an accountant at KHC Construction during 2023 and 2024.
According to the criminal complaint, Kor illegally issued checks to herself and made unauthorized purchases using a company credit card. These purchases included more than 20 gift card transactions. In total, she was alleged to have stolen more than $95,000 from the company.
Following her plea, the court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation and scheduled her sentencing hearing for October 14. A jury trial originally set for next week has been removed from the court calendar.
RAGBRAI Sees Two Rider Deaths as Route Enters Minnesota

Tragedy has struck the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) as two participants died during the multi-day cycling event this week.
On Tuesday morning, a rider collapsed while on the route through Estherville, Iowa. Emergency crews arrived around 7 a.m. and transported the individual to a nearby hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for further investigation into the cause of death.
The first fatal incident occurred Monday just outside Jackson, Minnesota. Authorities identified the cyclist as 54-year-old Kelly Paul of Texas. Paul collapsed on a county road near Highway 86 shortly after 8 a.m. Fellow cyclists with medical training provided immediate aid before emergency personnel transported him to Spirit Lake Regional Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
This year marks a milestone for RAGBRAI, as the annual ride entered Minnesota for the first time in its 52-year history. The event, which draws thousands of cyclists from across the country, continues despite the solemn news, with organizers extending support to the families and fellow riders.
