Saturday Tradition Continues: Marshall Farmers Market Back Through October

The Marshall Farmers Market is back for another vibrant season, kicking off Saturday, July 5, and running through October 25. Shoppers can enjoy the weekly tradition every Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon in the parking lot between the Schwan’s office building and the Marshall Area YMCA.
This year’s market is shaping up to be one of the busiest yet, with more than 50 vendors participating—reaching full capacity for the third year in a row. The market continues to serve as a hub for fresh produce, homemade goods, and local products, all while fostering a strong sense of community.
The market’s location, with its spacious layout and convenient parking, has supported its growth over the years. From its humble beginnings in the 1980s with just eight vendors on Third Street, the Marshall Farmers Market has become a Saturday morning staple for residents and visitors alike.
Families can look forward to the return of the Power of Produce (POP) Club, a program that encourages healthy eating by giving kids ages 3 to 13 a $2 token to use toward fresh fruits and vegetables at the market.
The market also supports accessibility through EBT payments and the Market Bucks program, which matches SNAP benefits to increase purchasing power for healthy, local food.
In addition to food and shopping, visitors can enjoy live entertainment throughout the season. Starting July 12, live performances will be held every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m., featuring a variety of local musicians, from string bands to drum ensembles—made possible through support from local sponsors.
Rain or shine, the Marshall Farmers Market offers something for everyone this summer and fall. With its full slate of vendors, music, and programs for kids and families, it's more than a market—it's a community tradition.
Big Changes Ahead: Lockwood Motors Expansion Revs Up in Marshall

Lockwood Motors in Marshall is undergoing a major transformation this summer, with construction well underway on a project that will more than double the dealership's current footprint. The expansion will add approximately 19,000 square feet to the facility, including significant upgrades to both customer service and operational capabilities.
The project includes a new Chevrolet showroom, a state-of-the-art service drive, and a quick service pit. These features are designed to enhance the customer experience by offering greater convenience, more efficient vehicle servicing, and upgraded technology for service technicians.
Construction began in April, with recent work focusing on foundation footings and underground infrastructure for the new shop area and basement. The project is taking shape on adjacent property acquired by Lockwood Motors at the corner of East College Drive and Sunrise Lane, formerly home to C&N Sales.
The dealership had been nearing capacity since 2007, when it expanded to include Chevrolet. After years of planning and coordination with auto manufacturers to approve the new facility’s design, construction is now in full swing. The new Chevrolet showroom is expected to reflect the latest dealership design standards, and the existing building will receive a facelift with new signage and façade improvements.
In addition to enhancing customer amenities, the expansion will boost service capacity. The additional space and upgraded equipment will help reduce wait times and improve workflow in the service department. A key part of the plan also includes hiring six to eight additional service technicians to support the growing operation.
While the original goal was to complete the expansion in time for Lockwood Motors' 70th anniversary in 2025, full completion is now expected in 2026. In the meantime, staff and customers have shown patience and support as the work progresses.
Local contractors and Marshall Municipal Utilities have played key roles in advancing the project, contributing to what will ultimately be a major investment in the community and its automotive needs.
