$2.48M MnDOT Project to Improve Visibility, Lane Safety

Motorists traveling on Highways 23 and 7 should anticipate minor delays starting June 9, as a pavement marking project gets underway.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is initiating the work as part of routine safety upgrades across the region.
The project includes the installation of centerline rumble strips and in-ground wet reflective striping. On the four-lane section of Highway 23 south of Marshall, crews will also add shoulder rumble strips.
These enhancements are designed to meet current safety standards by improving lane visibility and helping to prevent vehicles from unintentionally leaving the roadway.
Work will be completed in stages, beginning with Highway 23 from north of Marshall to south of Cottonwood, followed by the stretch from Russell to Marshall. Crews will then move to Highway 7 between Montevideo and Clara City.
During the project, drivers can expect temporary lane closures, flaggers, and slow-moving equipment. The work is expected to take approximately 20 working days, weather permitting.
MnDOT encourages drivers to use caution in work zones, reduce speed, and plan for additional travel time.
The $2.48 million project is being completed by Surface Preparation Technologies, LLC, and is part of MnDOT’s ongoing efforts to improve road safety throughout Minnesota.
BCA Investigates Deadly Police Shooting Following Domestic Call in Paynesville

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is conducting an investigation into a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Monday night in Paynesville following a report of domestic violence.
Authorities responded to a residence on the 600 block of Stearns Avenue around 9 p.m. after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance involving an armed man and a woman. The woman was able to leave the home safely and reported having suffered minor injuries to her head and neck.
Upon arrival, officers from the Paynesville and Cold Spring police departments, along with the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, found the man barricaded in the basement. Officers gave verbal commands for him to surrender. During the ensuing encounter, shots were fired.
Despite efforts to administer lifesaving aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered, and investigators are working to determine who discharged the fatal shot.
The incident was captured on body camera footage. The BCA has taken over the investigation as part of standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.
