A man from Ivanhoe sustained injuries early Saturday morning after his semi struck multiple cows on a highway in Fillmore County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The incident occurred around 4:30 AM as a 1998 Volvo semi was traveling westbound on Highway 16. The vehicle collided with several cows that were on the roadway at the time.

The driver, a 57-year-old man from Ivanhoe, was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Emergency response teams from the Preston Fire Department and Lanesboro EMS assisted at the scene.

Kick Off Summer with the 2025 Russell Bandwagon Days Celebration

The town of Russell is gearing up for a weekend full of entertainment, community spirit, and family fun as Russell Bandwagon Days returns on June 6, 7, and 8, 2025. With a packed schedule of events, activities, and food options, this annual celebration promises something for everyone.

Festivities kick off Friday evening with kids’ inflatables at the school park and the Birch Coulee Ranch Rodeo sign-up starting at 5:00 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the Ranch Rodeo begins, offering free admission and plenty of food and beverages on site.

Saturday’s schedule is action-packed, starting with a kickball tournament at 9:00 a.m. at the City Ball Field and coffee and rolls served at the Community Center by the Ladies of Grace First Parish. A vendor event, inflatable games, face painting, and the popular Kid’s Tractor Pull round out the morning.

Throughout the day, guests can enjoy a Bloody Mary Bar at the Russell Bar & Grill, Bingo under the tent, and a community Hog Roast sponsored by the Russell Fire Department. Kids and adults alike can join in Cow Bingo, while raffle drawings and the Bierema Rodeo Bull Riding & Mini Bull Riding event will take place at 5:00 p.m. ($20 admission for adults, $10 for youth ages 7–17, and free for kids 6 and under).

Saturday wraps up with live entertainment as IV Play takes the stage under the tent from 8:00 p.m. to midnight ($10 admission).

Sunday's festivities begin with breakfast under the tent (free-will donation), followed by a community church service at Grace First Parish and a kids’ fishing tournament at the Russell Lake parking lot. A classic car show will line South 3rd Street from 10:30 a.m. to noon, featuring prizes for the top entries. Parade-goers can enjoy the Russell Bandwagon Days Parade at 1:00 p.m., followed by the reopening of the Russell Bar & Grill for more food and fun.

Throughout the weekend, multiple food trucks and vendors will be available, with The Russell Bar & Grill open and serving the community. A DD bus service is also available within a 15-mile radius of Russell on Friday and Saturday evenings for safe transportation (call 507-829-1691 or 507-829-1783).
