Loaded Gun Allegedly Involved in Landlord-Tenant Dispute

A Marshall business owner appeared in Lyon County District Court this week to face felony charges stemming from an incident in early April.
Gregory Scott Taylor, 77, has been charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and making terroristic threats.
The charges are related to a confrontation involving a handgun at Taylor's business in Marshall.
According to a criminal complaint, law enforcement responded to a report on April 3 of an individual being held at gunpoint at the business. When officers from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Marshall Police arrived, they encountered Taylor and another man, identified as Jeffrey Johnson, at the scene.
Police allegedly recovered a loaded revolver from Taylor’s pocket during the incident.
The complaint states that Johnson, a tenant renting from Taylor, had earlier attended a court hearing involving a $65 fee and later went to Taylor’s office.
There, Johnson reportedly attempted to vacate his rental and requested a copy of his lease agreement. According to the complaint, Taylor refused the request, declared Johnson was trespassing, and then retrieved a handgun.
Johnson told police that Taylor did not point the weapon at him but had removed it during the confrontation. Taylor reportedly acknowledged taking the firearm and placing it in his pocket, stating that he did so after Johnson refused to leave the office.
Taylor appeared remotely for a court hearing on Wednesday. Bail was set at $45,000 without conditions or conditional release with terms including no firearm possession, no unnecessary contact with witnesses, and continued court appearances.
A follow-up hearing is scheduled for July 1.
Marshall-Based Guard Unit to Deploy to Middle East This Summer

Around 70 soldiers from the Minnesota National Guard’s Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 151st Field Artillery Regiment will deploy to the Middle East this summer, with their return expected in May 2026.
The deployment is part of a scheduled rotation supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, a mission aimed at assisting partnered forces in the region.
The unit, which includes soldiers from more than 65 communities across Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wisconsin, and Michigan, will first undergo a Joint Readiness Training Center rotation at Fort Johnson, Louisiana, followed by approximately four weeks of additional training.
Before deploying, a public pre-deployment ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Red Baron Arena and Expo in Marshall. The event will also be broadcast on Spectrum channel 180, Bluepeak channel 325, and streamed online via Studio 1 TV.
Alpha Battery's mission during deployment will involve providing artillery support to maneuvering ground units within the U.S. Central Command region. The unit is attached to the Iowa-based 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division.
The ceremony serves as a formal opportunity for the community to honor the soldiers’ service and acknowledge the ongoing support of their families and loved ones at home.
