Marshalls to Open in Marshall on May 15, Bringing Jobs and Retail Variety

The long-anticipated Marshalls store in Marshall is set to open its doors on May 15, bringing a new shopping destination to the community.

Located in the former Shopko building, the store will occupy approximately 22,000 square feet and marks a significant addition to the area’s retail landscape.

Marshalls representatives confirmed the store’s grand opening will take place from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on its first day of operation.

As part of the celebration, Marshalls will make a $10,000 donation to WoMen’s Rural Advocacy Programs (WRAP), reinforcing the company’s commitment to community support.

The retailer also maintains a network of partnerships with charitable organizations across the country.

With the launch of the Marshall location, Marshalls plans to hire approximately 60 full- and part-time employees.

The company, known for offering discounted brand-name merchandise across categories such as fashion, home, beauty, and kids' apparel, operates over 1,200 stores across 48 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

The new Marshalls store will be the second business to open inside the redeveloped Shopko building.

Harbor Freight Tools opened in 2023, and property owners are currently seeking a third tenant to complete the commercial space.

Eichorn Resigns Following Attempted Solicitation of Minor Allegation

Minnesota state Senator Justin Eichorn resigned Thursday following his arrest and federal charge for attempting to solicit a minor for prostitution. The Grand Rapids Republican stepped down before the state Senate could vote on whether to expel him.

Eichorn submitted his resignation in a brief message to Governor Tim Walz, citing personal matters. His departure came just days after he was arrested in Bloomington as part of an undercover operation targeting commercial sex involving minors.

Federal authorities charged Eichorn with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor. According to court documents, he engaged in multiple text exchanges with an undercover officer posing as a 17-year-old girl, ultimately arranging a meeting that led to his arrest. Authorities recovered two cellphones, a condom, and cash during the arrest.

A federal magistrate ordered Eichorn to be released to a halfway house with GPS monitoring once space becomes available. Conditions of his release include no unsupervised contact with minors and restricted, monitored internet access. He has not yet entered a plea and is expected back in court on Wednesday.

The resignation cleared the way for the Senate to move on without a vote on expulsion, which GOP leaders had indicated they were prepared to carry out due to the severity of the charge and the content of the investigation.

Eichorn, 40, had served in the Senate since 2016 and was listed as an entrepreneur. His now-removed legislative profile noted he was married with four children. Earlier this year, he gained brief national attention for co-sponsoring a satirical bill regarding “Trump derangement syndrome.”

His resignation reduces the GOP’s numbers in the Senate, giving Democrats a temporary two-seat majority until a special election is held. Governor Walz is expected to call a special session to fill the vacancy.

Meanwhile, Republicans continue to criticize Senate Democrats for not taking similar action against Sen. Nicole Mitchell, who faces a felony burglary charge. Democratic leaders have stated that her case differs significantly and should be allowed to proceed through the legal system before any decisions are made.
