School Bus, SUV Collide at Highway 19 Intersection

Two people, including a juvenile, were injured Wednesday afternoon in a crash involving a school bus and an SUV at the intersection of Minnesota Highway 19 and Lyon County Road 5, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:50 PM when a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox, traveling westbound on Highway 19, collided with a northbound Bluebird school bus at the intersection.
The Equinox was driven by a 57-year-old Minneota resident, while the school bus was operated by a 69-year-old Minneota man.
The driver of the SUV was transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
A juvenile passenger on the school bus was also injured but did not require hospitalization.
Emergency personnel from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and North Memorial Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Full-Summer Overweight Permits Begin April 30 in Southern Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will introduce several seasonal changes starting Wednesday, April 30, including the activation of full-summer overweight permits in the South, Southeast, and Metro frost zones.
Spring load restrictions are set to end in stages across the state, with the Central and North-Central frost zones lifting restrictions on Friday, May 2, followed by the North frost zone on Monday, May 12.
Vehicles exceeding 80,000 pounds gross weight may continue to operate with overweight permits, as long as axle weight requirements are met.
Additional information about regulations and permits is available through MnDOT and the Minnesota State Patrol, with contact details listed on MnDOT’s website.
