St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Cinderella’s Closet Highlight Local Weekend Events

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, downtown Marshall will be filled with excitement on Saturday, March 15, as the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off at 3:00 PM.
Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to dress in their best green attire and line the streets along West Main to enjoy a lively procession of floats, local performers, and community groups.
The parade has long been a tradition in the area, bringing people together to celebrate Irish heritage and the arrival of spring. Attendees should plan to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot, as this event typically draws a large crowd.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Cinderella’s Closet will be taking place at the Wheels Across the Prairie Museum in Tracy from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
This initiative, led by Tracy resident Jaci Knipe, aims to ensure that local high school students can attend prom without financial worry. The event offers a wide selection of donated formalwear, including dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories, all available at no cost to students who present a valid school ID.
With prom season quickly approaching, Cinderella’s Closet provides an opportunity for students to find the perfect outfit while alleviating some of the financial pressures that can come with these milestone events.
For those who may not be able to attend on Saturday, Cinderella’s Closet will continue on Sunday, March 16, at the same location and time.
The Wheels Across the Prairie Museum, known for preserving the region’s rich history, provides a meaningful setting for this event, reinforcing the community’s commitment to supporting its youth.
Whether people are looking for a festive way to celebrate the weekend or hoping to give back to the community, these events highlight the spirit of togetherness.
From the excitement of the parade to the generosity of Cinderella’s Closet, there’s something for everyone to take part in and enjoy.
Consumers Face Sticker Shock on Eggs for Third Straight Year

Egg prices surged to a new record in February, continuing an upward trend fueled by the ongoing bird flu outbreak and increased demand ahead of Easter and Passover.
According to the latest Consumer Price Index, the average cost of a dozen Grade A eggs in U.S. cities rose to $5.90, marking a 10.4% increase from the previous year. This surpasses January’s record-high price of $4.95.
The avian flu outbreak has significantly impacted egg supply, with more than 166 million birds—primarily egg-laying chickens—culled to contain the virus. Since the start of 2025 alone, over 30 million laying hens have been lost, further straining production.
If prices remain elevated, it will be the third consecutive year that consumers experience sticker shock ahead of major spring holidays. Eggs play a central role in both Easter and Passover traditions, driving up seasonal demand.
For decades, egg prices consistently remained below $2 per dozen before the recent outbreaks. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) anticipates a 41% increase in egg prices this year compared to last year’s average of $3.17 per dozen.
Despite the steep costs, some signs suggest relief may be on the horizon. The USDA recently reported that egg shortages are beginning to ease, with wholesale prices showing a decline.
This could lead to lower retail prices in the coming weeks, particularly with Easter arriving later than last year. Additionally, there have been no major bird flu outbreaks reported in the past two weeks, offering a glimmer of hope for improved supply stability.
While lower wholesale prices indicate the potential for future price drops, significant relief may take time. The egg industry faces challenges in replenishing bird stock and restoring production levels. Farmers remain cautious as they monitor the spring migration of wild birds, which are a primary source of virus transmission.
Meanwhile, rising egg costs have led restaurants to introduce surcharges and adjust menus to offset expenses. Concerns about potential price gouging have also surfaced, with advocacy groups calling for investigations into whether producers have used the crisis to inflate prices.
However, the egg industry maintains that avian flu remains the sole driver of these cost increases.
In response to the crisis, the Trump administration has announced a comprehensive plan to combat bird flu. The initiative includes a $500 million investment to strengthen biosecurity measures, $400 million in additional aid for affected farmers, and $100 million allocated for research into potential vaccines and treatments for U.S. chicken flocks. However, it is expected to take time before these measures yield tangible results.
As the spring holidays approach, consumers may still face high egg prices in the short term. However, ongoing efforts to control avian flu and stabilize supply could bring relief later in the year.
