Unseasonable Warmth: March 10 Brings Record Temperatures

As of mid-afternoon on March 10, 2015, temperatures at Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport reached 66 degrees, matching the previous record high set in 2012.

Historical temperature data for the Twin Cities indicates that March 10 has seen a wide range of temperatures over the past 143 years.

The coldest recorded maximum temperature for this date occurred in 1948, when it only reached -3 degrees, with a minimum of -17 degrees. Typically, the maximum temperature on this day hovers around 38 degrees.

Marshall, Minnesota, also experienced unseasonably warm weather on March 10, 2025, with clear skies and a high of 61 degrees.

Looking at historical trends, temperatures reaching 60 degrees or higher on March 10 have been a rare occurrence.

The only other instance of a 66-degree high on this date was in 2012.

Across 143 years of records, the temperature has surpassed 50 degrees just 12 times, accounting for about 8% of all recorded years.

Additionally, temperatures of 60 degrees or more have been recorded on or before March 10 roughly two dozen times, with the earliest instance occurring on February 15, 1921.

On average, the first 60-degree day in the Twin Cities typically arrives around March 29.

However, this year’s warmth is part of a broader trend, as numerous locations across Minnesota are experiencing record-breaking temperatures for March 10.
