Marshall Officials Receive New Notice of Broadmoor Valley Shutdown

The city of Marshall has received a new notice stating that Broadmoor Valley mobile home park is set to close on March 1, 2026.
The notice, sent by the park’s owners, Schierholz and Associates, will go before the city planning commission before the city council schedules a public hearing for affected residents.
At the same time, Marshall officials reviewed a separate request from the park’s owners for a $2 million financial commitment from the city to support an additional grant application to Minnesota Housing Finance.
The city had previously committed $500,000 for infrastructure improvements, but city officials declined the new request, citing a lack of available funds. The city council did not further discuss the matter at its recent meeting.
With the latest closure notice appearing to meet legal requirements, the city is preparing to move forward with required procedures, including scheduling a hearing and appointing a neutral third party for part of the closure process.
The matter will first go to the city’s planning commission on March 12 before likely advancing to the city council on March 25.
The broader impact of the closure remains uncertain, as Schierholz and Associates are facing a lawsuit from the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.
The agency alleges that announcing plans to close Broadmoor Valley violates a 2022 grant agreement, which required the property to remain a manufactured home community for 25 years.
City officials have stated they will proceed with the closure process unless directed otherwise.
Street Closures and Lane Restrictions Expected for Tree Removal in Marshall

Drivers in Marshall should be aware of tree removal work happening this week as both the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and the city of Marshall conduct separate projects.
MnDOT will begin clearing trees along parts of College Drive on Wednesday as part of preparations for a major street reconstruction set to start in May. The work will take place along Highway 19 (College Drive) from Marlene Street to Bruce Street, with shoulder and lane closures possible.
Flaggers may also be present to manage traffic. The tree removal is scheduled for completion by March 31.
Meanwhile, the city of Marshall’s street department will carry out tree maintenance along West Lyon Street on Thursday.
As a result, the section between North Fifth and North Sixth Streets will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with drivers encouraged to park on nearby streets.
City crews have already removed trees along North Fifth Street earlier in the week and will continue addressing trees that are dead, require maintenance, or have been damaged by emerald ash borer.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution in work zones and be mindful of crews and equipment.
