Marshall’s Highway 19 to Undergo Tree Removal Before Construction

road work ahead

Preparations for a major reconstruction project on Highway 19 in Marshall will begin within the next two weeks as crews remove trees and brush along the corridor.

The work, which is expected to be completed by March 31, will make way for upcoming improvements scheduled to start in May.

Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate shoulder and lane closures, with flaggers managing traffic when necessary. Drivers are advised to slow down and stay alert for crews and heavy equipment.

The clearing will take place between Marlene Street and the Bruce Street intersection to allow for construction and sidewalk enhancements. Efforts are being made to limit disruptions to northern long-eared bats, a species known to nest in the region.

The two-year reconstruction project will include repaving, utility replacements, the addition of a single-lane roundabout, and updated sidewalks that comply with ADA standards.

Replacement trees are planned for planting in fall 2026.

Creative Names Take the Spotlight in MnDOT’s Snowplow Contest

Minnesota’s snowplows have been given fresh names for the winter, with MnDOT announcing the winners of its annual Name a Snowplow contest.

Among the standout selections this year are "We’re Off To See The Blizzard" and "Anthony Sledwards."

The contest drew nearly 23,500 votes from the public, celebrating both creativity and the work of the state's 1,600 snowplow drivers. Now in its fifth year, the event continues to be a winter tradition, adding humor and personality to road-clearing efforts.

This year’s winning names and their assigned districts include:

  • We’re Off To See The Blizzard – Southwest Minnesota

  • Snowtorious B.I.G. – West Central Minnesota

  • Plowabunga! – Southeast Minnesota

  • Anthony Sledwards – Twin Cities

  • You’re Welcome – Northwest Minnesota

  • Don’tcha Snow – Central Minnesota
