Semi-Truck Crash Causes Chain Reaction in Nicollet County

A multi-vehicle crash on Highway 14 in Nicollet County left a Redwood Falls man injured Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 8:30 AM when a MnDOT snowplow truck was stopped in the eastbound lane due to an earlier crash.

Behind the plow, a 2008 Lincoln MKZ was also at a standstill.

A 2015 International semi traveling eastbound collided with both stationary vehicles near the intersection of 471st Avenue.

The driver of the semi, a 60-year-old man from Redwood Falls, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.

The drivers of the Lincoln and the snowplow truck were uninjured.

Emergency response teams from the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, Nicollet Fire Department, and Mayo Ambulance assisted at the scene. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash.

6-Year-Old Severely Injured in Ghent Dog Attack, Investigation Ongoing

Authorities in Lyon County are investigating an incident in which a 6-year-old girl sustained severe injuries after being bitten by three dogs in Ghent.

The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that reports will be sent to the County Attorney’s Office for consideration of potential charges.

The attack occurred on January 26 at a Ghent residence where the child was being watched by a babysitter.

The dogs belonged to another resident of the home, who was present during the incident. Following the attack, the child was transported to Sioux Falls for medical treatment and underwent surgeries for injuries to her arm, legs, and ear.

The three dogs involved were placed under a 10-day quarantine and declared dangerous under Ghent city ordinances.

The owner was given 14 days to appeal this classification. Two of the dogs had previously been labeled dangerous by the city of Minneota and were transferred there after the quarantine period. The third dog remains in a kennel pending the appeal process.

The family of the injured child is adjusting to the aftermath of the attack and has expressed gratitude for the support they have received.

The investigation remains ongoing.
