Marshall Library Parking Lot Accident: Vehicle Hits Family, One Possibly Hurt

A pedestrian sustained possible injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of the Marshall-Lyon County Library on Monday, according to Marshall Police.
The incident occurred around noon when a vehicle traveling through the lot hit a parent and children who were walking nearby.
The collision happened shortly after a Community Transit bus had pulled out of the area.
While the children were unharmed, the adult may have suffered injuries.
Emergency responders from North Memorial Ambulance arrived at the scene to provide assistance.
Marshall Man Cited After Wind-Driven Fire Threatens Nearby Areas

A Marshall resident received a citation after a trash fire burned out of control last week, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The fire, reported around 8 PM at a residence on the 2900 block of U.S. Highway 59, was ignited to dispose of materials such as cardboard. However, dry conditions and wind caused the flames to spread.
Authorities noted that the fire was left unattended and the individual responsible did not have a required burn permit.
Firefighters from Marshall and Ghent responded, while a third call to the Cottonwood Fire Department was ultimately canceled.
The primary objective was to prevent the fire from reaching homes.
The blaze spread to an area of tall grass near the MERIT Center driving track on Lyon County Road 33 before reaching a plowed field, which served as a natural firebreak.
It also moved through a farm grove, but no buildings were damaged. The fire did not extend to the driving track.
The person responsible was cited for failure to properly extinguish the fire.
Incident reports identified the individual as a 48-year-old Marshall man.
