Drugs, Stolen Items, and Firearm Found in Rural Walnut Grove Search

A coordinated law enforcement operation in rural Redwood County led to the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of multiple stolen items, controlled substances, and a firearm.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, with support from multiple agencies, executed search warrants on Tuesday, targeting a property in rural Walnut Grove.

A 42-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, both from the area, were taken into custody. They currently face charges related to controlled substance possession and illegal firearm possession.

Additional charges, including burglary, theft, and possession of stolen property, are under review by county attorneys. The suspects remain in custody at the Redwood County Jail as the investigation continues.

The operation involved collaboration between several sheriff’s offices from Redwood, Murray, and Pipestone Counties, police departments from Morgan, Westbrook, and Sleepy Eye, as well as the Buffalo Ridge and Brown, Lyon, Redwood, and Renville Drug Task Force. The investigation remains ongoing.

Jury Rules in Broadmoor Valley Case, Leaving Residents Frustrated

Following the conclusion of a civil trial against the owners of Broadmoor Valley mobile home park, both the Minnesota Attorney General’s Office and members of the park’s resident association are considering their next steps.

A jury determined that while Schierholz and Associates, the company that owns Broadmoor Valley, failed to maintain common areas in a clean and orderly condition in recent years, company president Paul Schierholz was not found to have knowingly contributed to the issue.

Additionally, the jury ruled that the park owners were not liable for other claims in the lawsuit, which was originally filed by the Attorney General’s Office in 2021.

The lawsuit sought civil penalties, improvements to the park, and restitution for residents. However, the jury found that park owners had not imposed unlawfully high late rent fees and that the park’s roads were adequate for normal travel.

The outcome has left some residents feeling frustrated, particularly given previous unsuccessful legal efforts by the resident association to hold park management accountable.

Concerns remain over the safety and living conditions within the community, and the resident association is now discussing potential actions moving forward.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s Office remains committed to ensuring fair treatment for all Minnesotans and is evaluating options in response to the jury’s decision.
