$50 Garage Sale Painting Could Be a Priceless Van Gogh

A painting purchased for under $50 at a Minnetonka garage sale in 2016 has been identified as a possible long-lost work by Vincent van Gogh.

LMI Group International, a New York-based art research firm, conducted an extensive four-year investigation costing over $30,000 to authenticate the piece.

Their analysis combined traditional art techniques with scientific methods, including pigment testing and DNA analysis of a hair found on the canvas.

The painting, titled Elimar, depicts a fisherman mending a net while smoking a pipe and is believed to have been created in 1889 during van Gogh’s time at the Saint-Paul asylum in France.

However, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam previously examined the piece in 2019 and concluded it did not match the artist’s stylistic characteristics. The museum has yet to respond to the new findings from LMI Group, leaving the painting’s true origins a subject of debate.

Drugs, Stolen Items, and Firearm Found in Rural Walnut Grove Search

A coordinated law enforcement operation in rural Redwood County led to the arrest of two individuals and the discovery of multiple stolen items, controlled substances, and a firearm.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, with support from multiple agencies, executed search warrants on Tuesday, targeting a property in rural Walnut Grove.

A 42-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman, both from the area, were taken into custody. They currently face charges related to controlled substance possession and illegal firearm possession.

Additional charges, including burglary, theft, and possession of stolen property, are under review by county attorneys. The suspects remain in custody at the Redwood County Jail as the investigation continues.

The operation involved collaboration between several sheriff’s offices from Redwood, Murray, and Pipestone Counties, police departments from Morgan, Westbrook, and Sleepy Eye, as well as the Buffalo Ridge and Brown, Lyon, Redwood, and Renville Drug Task Force. The investigation remains ongoing.
