Turkey Barn Fire Leads to Total Loss East of Wood Lake

Multiple area fire departments responded to a fire at a turkey barn east of Wood Lake on Monday afternoon.

The fire, reported at a farm on 590th Street in Yellow Medicine County, completely destroyed the structure.

The Wood Lake Fire Department was first on the scene and found the barn fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Wood Lake, Echo, Hanley Falls, Cottonwood, and Granite Falls worked together to extinguish the blaze.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the barn was empty at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected.

With over $1,000 in giveaways, every participant has the chance to walk away with something amazing. From a cozy Buddy Heater to keep warm on future fishing trips to an insulated ice house, auger bits, CLAM buckets, neon combo gear, fishing line, and so much more, there’s something for every young angler to get excited about.

But this event isn’t just about winning prizes—it’s about creating memories. It’s a day filled with adventure, connection, and appreciation for the great outdoors, which is exactly what ROYO is all about.

ROYO, or Reach Out to Youth Outdoors, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sparking a love for hunting, fishing, and outdoor exploration in young people. They aim to provide kids with opportunities to experience the beauty of Southwest Minnesota, learn new skills, and connect with others who share their passion for the outdoors.

This fishing event is the perfect way to bring that mission to life while giving kids a day to remember.

  • Pre-Valentine’s Weekend Comedy Show at The Rock: Dining & Events in Granite Falls at 8:00 PM

    • Special Event with David Harris

  • United Way of Southwest Minnesota is hosting Tailgate for a Cause at the 5 Family Ranch in Marshall starting at 5:00 PM

    • $50 per ticket or $500 Table Sponsor slots available

    • All funds raised will be going to support local programs.

    • The event will begin at 5:00 PM and will feature a Silent Auction and Heads or Tails 50/50 Raffle, Photo Booth, Music and various Tailgate Games/Entertainment provided by Push Play Entertainment.

    • Tailgate Food provided by The Hitching Post and a Full Cash Bar provided by 5 Family Ranch.
