19-Year-Old Driver Injured in Highway 19 Crash

A single-vehicle crash on Highway 19 in Lyon County early Thursday morning resulted in injuries to a Tracy woman, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. Around 7:50 AM., a 2020 GMC Sierra traveling eastbound left the roadway and crashed.
The driver, identified as 19-year-old Madison Johnson of Tracy, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Marshall hospital for treatment.
Emergency response teams from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall Fire Department, and North Memorial Ambulance provided assistance at the scene.

Marshall is moving forward with a $1.46 million construction project aimed at updating streets and utilities in a residential neighborhood ahead of a larger state reconstruction of College Drive.
The Marshall City Council held a public hearing this week to discuss plans for South Hill Street, South Minnesota Street, and Charles Avenue before unanimously approving the project to go out for bids.
The construction will span two residential blocks between South Whitney Street and South Minnesota Street, near Avera Marshall Medical Center.
The project includes rebuilding streets and replacing aging water, sewer, and storm sewer lines. The current infrastructure features small-diameter water mains and outdated piping, prompting the need for replacement.
The planned reconstruction will retain the center boulevard design implemented during recent work on South Whitney Street.
While the streets will be resurfaced with asphalt, two alleys in the project area will be paved with concrete. These alleys house water service lines for nearby homes, making a complete reconstruction necessary rather than patching.
City officials highlighted the urgency of completing this project before the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins a major reconstruction of Highway 19 (College Drive) in 2025 and 2026.
Aligning the timelines will help avoid overlap and ensure the area is prepared for the upcoming state project.
With the estimated project cost including contingencies and engineering fees, the council also voted to order the improvements and proceed with finalizing plans.
