Marshall Blood Drives Offer Shot at Super Bowl LIX Experience

This month, the American Red Cross and the NFL are partnering to encourage life-saving blood, platelet, and plasma donations during National Blood Donor Month.
From January 1 through January 26, 2025, donors will be entered into a sweepstake to win a dream trip for two to Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans.
The grand prize includes Super Bowl LIX tickets, access to pre-game stadium activities, passes to the official Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare, a three-night hotel stay from February 7–10, and a $1,000 gift card for expenses.
Local blood drives in Marshall offer multiple opportunities to participate:
Friday, January 17: Marshall Fire Department, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.
Friday, January 24: Runnings, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.
To book an appointment or find additional drives nearby, visit redcrossblood.org.
Notably, no donation is required to enter the giveaway. Interested participants can opt-in via email, with full terms and conditions available on the Red Cross website.
This collaboration is a unique opportunity to support critical blood supply needs while having a chance to experience one of the biggest sporting events of the year.
New Details: Alcohol Allegedly a Factor in Cottonwood Lake Ice Accident

On Sunday, deputies, along with the Cottonwood Fire Department and Ambulance, arrived to find an ATV in the water. The vehicle’s occupants—two adult males and a juvenile female—were able to walk to shore after escaping the sinking ATV.
Local residents played a crucial role by calling in the accident and opening the nearby Christ Lutheran Church to shelter the victims from the cold.
Emergency responders treated all three individuals at the scene. The two adults were later transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center for additional care and were subsequently released. The juvenile was unharmed and reunited with family.
Danielson was arrested at the scene and charged with criminal vehicular operation and driving while under the influence of alcohol.
A criminal complaint filed in Lyon County District Court on Monday alleges that Danielson had been operating the ATV under the influence when it broke through the ice.
Deputies reported that Danielson exhibited signs of impairment, including slurred speech and the odor of alcohol.
Danielson appeared in custody for a hearing on Monday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office also highlighted the dangers of venturing onto frozen lakes and rivers, emphasizing that ice thickness can vary significantly and may conceal areas of open water.
They urged the public to exercise extreme caution and thanked Cottonwood residents for their quick action in assisting the accident victims.
Additionally, a similar incident occurred over the weekend on Lake Hanska, where a UTV broke through the ice.
Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in that case.
