Highway 212 Crash Results in Life-Threatening Injuries for Montevideo Resident

A three-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck on Highway 212 in Montevideo early Monday morning left two people injured, one critically.
The crash occurred around 6:00 AM near the intersection with Carlton Drive. A 2021 Freightliner semi was traveling westbound, while a 2008 Dodge Avenger and a 2019 Jeep Compass were heading eastbound when the vehicles collided.
The driver of the Dodge, 39-year-old Garrett Feldhake of Montevideo, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to HCMC in Minneapolis for treatment.
Meanwhile, 33-year-old Brianna Ward, the driver of the Jeep Compass and also a Montevideo resident, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Montevideo hospital.
David Morrison, the 55-year-old driver of the semi from New Brighton, was uninjured in the crash.
Emergency responders, including the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, Montevideo Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Services, assisted at the scene. The incident remains under investigation.
Marshall Utilities Plans $18M Generator Plant in 2025 Budget

Marshall Municipal Utilities Commission has approved its 2025 budget, maintaining current water and electric rates while adjusting equipment usage fees.
The 2025 electric department operating budget shows total revenue of $38.44 million against operating expenses of $38.3 million.
The department's capital improvement budget allocates $5.99 million for expenses including electric transmission, streetlights, transformers, and equipment.
For the water department, the 2025 operating budget projects revenue of $7.4 million and operating expenses of $6.3 million. The department's capital improvement budget sets aside $3.57 million for expenses related to the water treatment facility, equipment, meters, and technology.
Budget documents indicate that purchased power and water, along with transmission costs, will constitute 65% of MMU's total 2025 operating expenses across all departments.
A major project in the electric department involves constructing a new generator plant to replace the existing 55-year-old turbine generator.
The plant, estimated to cost $18 million, is scheduled for completion by December 2026. Additional electric projects include replacing a three-decade-old load management system and upgrading underground lines and streetlights along College Drive in conjunction with MnDOT reconstruction.
The water department's plans include replacing over 6,400 feet of water main through the College Drive project area, with $2.75 million allocated for water main replacement.
The department also plans upgrades to computer systems and water plant equipment.
The budget revision includes adjustments to labor fees and equipment rental rates, with increased fees for items such as dump trucks, reel trailers, and mowers.
