Aquatic Center, Legion Field, and More: Donations Transform Marshall Parks

Marshall’s parks and recreation programs enjoyed significant community support in 2024, with substantial donations enhancing facilities, programs, and amenities.

This week, the Marshall City Council formally accepted nearly $250,000 in contributions to the parks department, along with an additional $143,000 designated for a project by the Marshall Sunrise Rotary.

The donations funded a wide range of initiatives, including inclusive playground equipment, a memorial bench at Independence Park, and new trees to counteract emerald ash borer damage. Recreational programs also benefited, receiving $7,300 for equipment upgrades.

Major contributions included $81,000 from local sports associations for improvements at Legion Field and $100,000 for amenities at Marshall’s new Aquatic Center, slated for future development.

The $143,000 donation from the Sunrise Rotary and the Ted Rowe Legacy Fund will support a project yet to be determined, with the city awaiting direction from the Rotary on how the funds should be utilized.

In acknowledging the donations, city leaders emphasized the vital role of community support in advancing Marshall’s parks and recreation offerings.

The contributions, they noted, enable projects and improvements that wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of residents, businesses, and local organizations.

Avoid Fines: MnDOT Highlights Legal Snow Removal Practices

As winter settles in, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is urging residents to prioritize safety by avoiding the common but dangerous mistake of pushing snow onto public roads.

Improper snow disposal not only violates state law but also creates serious hazards for drivers and pedestrians.

Blocked drainage systems, drifting snow, and obstructed visibility at intersections are just a few of the risks posed by snow left on roads.

Additionally, these actions can make accessing roadways unsafe, endangering everyone who uses them. Keeping intersections, crosswalks, and driveways clear is essential to maintaining safe travel conditions.

Minnesota law strictly forbids placing snow on public roads, including through plowing, shoveling, or blowing it.

Violators can face misdemeanor charges and may also be held civilly liable if their actions lead to accidents or injuries. Both property owners and the individuals who improperly move snow can be held accountable.

Stay informed and help keep roads safe this winter by ensuring snow is disposed of responsibly.

Share this message with friends, neighbors, and family to spread awareness and reduce winter hazards in your community.
