470 Crashes, 30 Jackknifed Semis: State Patrol Responds to Winter Chaos

A winter storm last Thursday created hazardous travel conditions across Minnesota, keeping the Minnesota State Patrol busy throughout the day.
Between midnight and 8:30 PM, troopers responded to 470 crashes statewide, with 38 of those resulting in injuries.
In addition, 261 vehicles slid off icy roads, and 30 semitrailers jackknifed.
The storm’s heaviest impact was felt in south-central and southeastern Minnesota, where snowfall totals reached up to seven inches in areas like New Prague, Winthrop, and Kellogg.
Zumbrota and St. Peter recorded six-and-a-half inches, while White Bear Lake, Chanhassen, and Red Wing reported six inches.
The Rochester area received five-and-a-half inches, with five inches measured in the Twin Cities, Mankato, and Willmar.
As winter weather continues to affect road conditions, drivers are advised to exercise caution while traveling.
