Tragic Rollover on Icy Highway 60 Kills Local Man

A Worthington man lost his life in a rollover accident early Wednesday morning in Jackson County, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The crash occurred around 6:21 AM on Highway 60 near Wilder. A 2008 Ford Edge, traveling eastbound, lost control and rolled into the south ditch.
Authorities reported icy road conditions at the time of the incident.
The driver, identified as 43-year-old Miguel Angel Heredia from Worthington, succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The State Patrol noted that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
Emergency responders from the Cottonwood County Sheriff’s Office, Windom Police Department, Windom Fire Department, and Windom Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Ice Safety Alert: Minnesota DNR Urges Caution on Frozen Lakes

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is urging residents to prioritize safety on frozen lakes and rivers following a series of recent ice rescues across the state.
The DNR emphasized that falling through the ice poses a significant risk, with Minnesota averaging three ice-related fatalities annually.
Last year, that number rose to six, underscoring the dangers.
Despite the popularity of winter activities on frozen water bodies, the DNR warns that most lakes and rivers statewide currently lack sufficient ice for safe exploration.
Ice thickness can vary, making conditions unpredictable.
The agency advises waiting for at least four inches of clear, solid ice before venturing out, and even then, recommends verifying local conditions and having a safety plan in place.
