Granite Falls Man Faces 90-Month Sentence for Assaulting Partner in Dorm Room

Keanu Avery Labatte, a 20-year-old from Granite Falls, received a 90-month prison sentence following a guilty plea for second-degree criminal sexual conduct related to an assault in a St. Catherine University dorm room in September 2023.

Labatte was accused of detaining his girlfriend over a weekend, inflicting physical and sexual abuse, including threats with a weapon and waterboarding.

The victim escaped by persuading him to let her leave to get food, where she then sought help from campus security.

Police apprehended Labatte in the dorm room, where they collected evidence linked to the incident, including a knife and a damp washcloth.

Additionally, Labatte, who was already on probation for restraining order violations involving a previous partner, will receive lifetime registration as a sex offender and is under a no-contact order with the victim.

Bring Joy to Dementia Caregivers: Marshall Area Dementia Awareness Network Offers Holiday Cheer Baskets

The holiday season can be particularly tough for those providing constant care for loved ones with dementia.

Recognizing the tireless dedication of these caregivers, the Marshall Area Dementia Awareness Network is stepping up to spread some holiday cheer.

This year, the organization invites the community to nominate caregivers to receive a thoughtfully prepared holiday cheer basket, a small token of gratitude for their selflessness and resilience.

Dementia caregivers often work around the clock, 365 days a year, managing the physical and emotional demands of caring for someone with cognitive decline.

Many caregivers feel isolated or overwhelmed, especially during the holidays when others are celebrating with loved ones.

The holiday cheer baskets offer a reminder that their community sees and appreciates them.

If you know someone who is tirelessly caring for a person with dementia, you can nominate them for this heartfelt gift by completing this form by December 1st.

This small gesture could bring a bright moment to their season, reminding them they are not alone in their journey.
