Fire Consumes Historic Elevator Site in Russell, Multiple Departments Respond

A fire broke out Sunday morning at the historic elevator site along Front Street in Russell, Minnesota.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office received the initial report at 9:18 a.m., and when deputies arrived with the Russell Fire Department and First Responders, they found one of the buildings engulfed in flames.
In response to the escalating fire, departments from Balaton, Tracy, Lynd, Ghent, Minneota, Taunton, Cottonwood, Garvin, Marshall, Tyler, Chandler, and Lake Wilson all provided critical support.
The Balaton Ambulance team was on-site, assisting firefighters and ensuring their safety.
Throughout the day, community members also contributed by bringing water, food, and other supplies to support those working tirelessly to contain the blaze.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal are investigating the fire's origin.
Authorities urge anyone with information to reach out to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office at 507-537-7666.
Marshall’s East Main Casey’s Reopens with New Features for Customers

The Casey’s gas station and convenience store on East Main Street in Marshall closed for several days last week to complete a series of renovations aimed at enhancing the store’s appearance and functionality.
Both the building exterior and store interior received updates, including new trim for the canopy and a fresh layout with upgraded counters and a more accessible open-air cooler. The improvements are part of Casey’s commitment to providing a convenient, welcoming space for its customers.
By Thursday morning, the station was fully operational again, ready to serve the Marshall community.
This East Main Street location is one of two Casey’s stores in the area, the second of which is located on East College Drive.
Together, these stores offer essential services to residents and travelers, providing fuel, fresh food, and quick service.
As one of the community’s popular stops, the upgrades reflect Casey’s ongoing efforts to adapt and better meet the needs of its customers.
