Edgerton Man Faces Murder Charge Following Fatal Incident

A man from Edgerton has been charged with second-degree murder following a deadly incident on November 2.
According to a recent criminal complaint, Pipestone County deputies responded after the property owner received a message from 35-year-old Joseph James Benson, stating he had killed his girlfriend, who was house-sitting with him.
Deputies found Benson with visible injuries, and he directed them to an upstairs bathroom where the victim was found unresponsive, with signs of asphyxiation.
A video on Benson’s phone allegedly showed a prior altercation with the victim.
Benson’s court date is set for November 12, and he faces a potential 40-year prison sentence if convicted.
Innovative Housing Project Pairs Tracy Students with Local Contractors to Build New Homes

A housing development project in Tracy is progressing with an innovative partnership involving Tracy Area High School students, local contractors, and city leadership.
This community-centered initiative, which broke ground this spring, aims to build three new homes on the southern side of Tracy.
Through a collaborative effort among the Tracy Economic Development Authority (EDA), the city, and the school district, the development seeks to address housing needs while offering high school students hands-on construction experience.
This initiative received $100,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funding to kickstart the project, allowing the construction of a home on Second Street East.
Tracy community development director Tom Dobson highlighted the project’s impact, with the exterior roofing and sheathing already underway.
Tracy Area High School students in a construction class taught by contractor Karl Campbell have framed the house, while professional plumbers and electricians contributed to other essential building phases.
The two additional homes are being constructed in collaboration with United Community Action Partnership through a grant program. With progress steadily advancing on all three homes, Dobson noted the significant educational impact on students involved.
Many students are motivated to keep their grades up to participate in the worksite experience, developing skills that could inspire future careers in the trades. The initiative may also receive further support through grant applications for new tools and a trailer to expand the school’s building trades program.
Looking ahead, the city of Tracy has identified a 22-acre parcel along Front Street for future residential development. This location, with utility access already in place, could be instrumental in Tracy’s long-term housing growth plans, offering ample space for continued expansion to meet community needs.
