Lyon County Early Voting Numbers Surge as Election Day Nears
Lyon County is experiencing a significant increase in early voting, with over 4,000 ballots submitted by mail, absentee, or direct voting as of noon Friday, as reported by the Lyon County Auditor/Treasurer's Office.
This is up from around 2,750 votes last week, reflecting a surge in local participation as Election Day nears.
Statewide, more than 989,000 ballots have been accepted, with Minnesota’s early voting numbers significantly surpassing those of 2016.
The increase in mail and absentee ballots in Lyon County is partly due to more precincts adopting mail-only voting.
Here are the voting hours for today and tomorrow:
November 4, 2024: Early voting ends at 5:00 p.m.
All Lyon County voters may vote early in person at the Auditor Treasurer’s Office located at Lyon County Government Center 607 W. Main Street, Marshall, MN
Election Day: November 5, 2024: 7 AM to 8 PM

Snowy Halloween in Minnesota: Several Inches Recorded, Numerous Accidents Reported

The Halloween snowfall across Minnesota was notable, though it didn’t reach the levels of the infamous 1991 storm.
In areas like Henriette and Monticello, snowfall topped 4 inches, and other regions saw accumulations between 1 to 4 inches, with areas like Pine County seeing up to 4.5 inches.
The heavy, wet snow, combined with rain earlier in the day, caused slick and challenging driving conditions, leading to over 220 traffic incidents statewide.
The wet, slushy snow impacted turnout for outdoor events in some areas, particularly where heavier accumulation and lower visibility challenged Halloween celebrations.
This unseasonal weather was notable, though not as disruptive as the 1991 blizzard which saw much greater snowfall and challenges.
