Ex-Marshall Principal Fights Court Ruling on Civil Rights Case

Mary Kay Thomas, a former principal at Marshall Middle School, has filed an appeal after a federal judge dismissed her lawsuit against Marshall Public Schools (MPS).

Thomas originally sued the district in 2021, alleging she was demoted and put on a performance plan for supporting LGBTQ+ students, including displaying a pride flag and backing a student alliance. She also cited harassment by a school board member.

However, the judge ruled that her claims didn’t meet the requirements of federal civil rights protections, including Title VII and Title IX.

    • Menu: 8oz New York Strip Steak for $18.00 or Country Fried Steak with Country Gravy - $13.00. Both meals are served with a Lettuce Salad, Bake Potato, Green Beans & Dinner Roll.

    • The Post is located at 116 E. Saxon St. in Ivanhoe.

  • The 12th Annual Indoor Christmas Tree Walk at the Lyon County Museum in Marshall from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM

    • The trees and museum will stay decorated through December 31.

  • Holiday Kick Off in Granite Falls from 3:00 - 6:00 PM in downtown Granite Falls
