Two Injured in Lyon County Collision at Highway 91 and US 14

Two individuals were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Lyon County on Monday afternoon, as reported by the Minnesota State Patrol.
The incident occurred around 1:18 p.m. when a 74-year-old Marshall resident driving a Ford F150 collided with a 20-year-old Beaver Creek driver in a Ford Fusion at the intersection of State Highway 91 and US Highway 14.
Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Multiple agencies, including the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and local emergency services, assisted at the scene.
SMSU Partners with Local Schools for New Marshall Area Learning Center Opening

The Marshall Area Learning Center (ALC) celebrated the grand opening of its new facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking a major milestone for educational services in the region.
The space, shared with Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), the Southwest West Central Cooperative (SWWC), and Adult Basic Education (ABE), includes a renovated building featuring modern classrooms, shared recreational areas, and enhanced security systems.
The ALC supports students from Marshall and nearby towns, focusing on providing tailored educational opportunities, while the ELC serves special education students with various needs.
This collaboration between SMSU, SWWC, and Marshall Public Schools benefits students from all backgrounds, offering alternative learning environments for those requiring additional support outside traditional settings. The renovated space includes not only classrooms but also study and common areas, principal offices, and a library. Security improvements such as secured entrances and cameras were also implemented.
The ALC, which previously operated in Belview, is now conveniently located on SMSU’s campus, allowing students from Marshall, Tracy, Granite Falls, Cottonwood, Minneota, Canby, and other nearby communities to access the new facility.
The Educational Learning Center (ELC) on the building’s first floor focuses on providing resources for students with severe learning or behavioral issues who meet the criteria for special education.
In addition to the ALC, the ELC offers specialized support for students with disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, cognitive disabilities, and other impairments, ensuring that students receive the care and education they need from kindergarten through high school.
The event celebrated the strong partnerships and collaboration between SMSU, the school district, and the cooperative, emphasizing the positive impact on the community and the region.
The center was completed on a tight timeline, with construction beginning in January and finishing just in time for the start of the school year.
