Avera Marshall and Congresswoman Fischbach Discuss Rural Health and Staffing Mandates

Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach met with Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center leaders to discuss pressing healthcare concerns in rural Minnesota.
A key topic was the proposed federal mandate on mandatory nursing staff ratios.
Avera expressed concerns that the mandate could negatively impact rural nursing homes, potentially reducing services or leading to closures, thereby limiting patient access to nearby care.
Fischbach is advocating against the mandate to prevent harm to rural healthcare. The conversation also covered telehealth expansion, which has become increasingly vital in rural communities, and the need for continued support of such services. Avera representatives expressed their appreciation for Fischbach’s advocacy for rural healthcare.
The Congresswoman reiterated her commitment to ensuring that rural health services remain viable and accessible, emphasizing the need for adaptable healthcare regulations in evolving technological landscapes. The discussions reflect ongoing efforts to balance policy changes with the unique needs of rural communities, ensuring they don’t lose access to critical care services.
Fischbach's visit signals continued attention to rural healthcare challenges, with future discussions likely as federal healthcare policies evolve.
Park Ranger Drowns During Heroic Rescue Mission at Voyageurs National Park

A park ranger tragically lost their life during a water rescue at Minnesota's Voyageurs National Park.
The ranger responded to a call for help on Namakan Lake, where a boat had become stranded in rough conditions.
While towing the disabled boat, the ranger’s vessel capsized due to high winds, throwing all four people into the water.
The three individuals being rescued were able to swim to safety, but the ranger's body was recovered three hours later.
The National Park Service has not released the ranger’s name, and an investigation is ongoing.
