Brau Brothers and SMSU Celebrate Homecoming with Mustang Golden Ale Release

Southwest Minnesota State University has teamed up with Brau Brothers Brewing Co. to create Mustang Golden Ale, a special release celebrating Mustang pride and the Marshall community.

Dustin Brau, an SMSU alumnus, crafted this golden ale, which will be available for purchase starting today (October 11) at Tall Grass Liquor.

This launch coincides with SMSU's Homecoming on October 12, offering a way for alumni and students to unite over a locally brewed beer.

Proceeds from Mustang Golden Ale sales will benefit SMSU and its athletic programs, further strengthening ties between the university and local businesses.

New Cannabis Regulations Introduced in Marshall, Capping Retailers at Two

The city of Marshall continues to prepare for the upcoming launch of Minnesota’s cannabis licensing in January.

Beyond setting a cap of two retailers for higher-potency cannabis, officials are ensuring that local ordinances reflect state requirements, like safety, fire codes, and proper zoning regulations.

The registration process will also include detailed steps for renewing business licenses, allowing for oversight as the industry develops. These efforts are part of a broader push to regulate cannabis effectively while balancing economic opportunity with community safety.

Marshall's city officials also anticipate zoning code amendments in the near future, which will further refine the process and expectations for cannabis businesses.

Collaboration with Minnesota's Office of Cannabis Management will ensure that businesses meet the necessary regulations before opening their doors.

The city is actively preparing for potential challenges, making sure all cannabis businesses operate within a structured framework that complies with both state and local laws.

With the upcoming issuance of licenses, the city aims to balance local business opportunities with public safety, creating a system that reflects both economic growth and regulatory oversight.

By limiting the number of cannabis retailers and addressing zoning and safety concerns early on, Marshall is positioning itself to manage the rollout of legalized cannabis sales while maintaining control over its local landscape.

More adjustments are expected as the licensing date nears, with both residents and businesses watching how the framework will shape this new industry.
