End of an Era: Yelloh Announces Closure Amid Operational Struggles

Yelloh, the food delivery company famous for its bright yellow trucks, is set to end its 70-year run in November.

Originally founded in 1952 by Marvin Schwan in Marshall, Minnesota, the company grew from delivering local ice cream to becoming a nationwide frozen food service.

However, Yelloh has struggled in recent years with staffing shortages, pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, and the rise of digital shopping, which changed the personal, door-to-door interactions that were once its hallmark.

Despite attempts to stay afloat, including a rebrand in 2022, Yelloh faced insurmountable business challenges, leading to the difficult decision to cease operations.

Employees will be notified in accordance with the WARN act, with the last day of delivery set for November 8. The company’s closure comes after significant layoffs in recent years, including 750 employees last October and further cuts in June.

Yelloh’s history is deeply tied to the local community in Marshall. It started with one man delivering ice cream and expanded into a beloved national brand. After Schwan’s Company was sold to CJ CheilJedang in 2018, the Schwan family retained ownership of the home delivery service, which later became Yelloh.

As Yelloh prepares to close its doors, it marks the end of a business that served millions of families and provided thousands of jobs over its long history.

The company’s leadership expressed deep gratitude to their employees and loyal customers while acknowledging the heartbreak of seeing such an iconic brand come to an end.
