Marshall's New Aquatic Center 'The Splash!' Breaks Ground

Excited children gathered at the Sounds of Summer festival grounds for a big moment: revealing the name of Marshall’s new aquatic center. With a dramatic countdown, they pulled back a tarp to unveil the name—

“The Splash!”

This event was part of the ceremonial groundbreaking for the new aquatic center, which was named through a community-driven effort that included ideas from local students, social media feedback, and public input.

“The Splash!” will be built near the corner of West College Drive and Saratoga Street. The city plans to begin construction this fall, with bids for the project opening soon.

This project has been in the works for years. Marshall’s current Aquatic Center, located in Legion Field Park since 1937, has had several updates, but the facility now faces significant issues like outdated systems and substantial water leaks.

To fund the new center, the city extended its local sales tax, aiming to raise $18.3 million.

After overcoming legislative challenges, the proposal was approved by more than two-thirds of voters in a special election in November 2023.

Fundraising efforts continue for additional features at The Splash!, such as a body slide, a water walk, a climbing wall, and more shade structures.

The community has already raised more than half of the $1 million goal for these enhancements.

The new center is expected to be a significant attraction for Marshall and the surrounding region, marking an exciting chapter for the community.
