Ditch Repair Funding Secured: Lyon County Approves 2025 Assessments

Lyon County commissioners recently held a meeting as the county's drainage authority to review and approve several ditch assessments for 2025. The session was mostly straightforward, with updates provided on various ongoing and planned ditch repairs.

Seven ditch assessments were approved, each tailored to the needs of the respective ditch systems. For example, County Ditch 38 received a 20% assessment to cover necessary outlet repairs, while County Ditch 40, near Russell, was given a 5% assessment for maintenance.

County Ditches 51 and 64 were assessed at 2% each. County Ditch 64, which had been neglected over the years, recently underwent tile rerouting, and the assessment will help fund further repairs.

The meeting also addressed public concerns about past assessments, particularly for County Ditch 14, where repairs have been progressing slower than expected. The project is now anticipated to wrap up by mid-November, with additional funding being explored to relieve pressure on the system.

In a separate discussion, the commissioners approved assessments on joint ditch systems, including a 5% assessment for Judicial Ditch 9, to prepare for upcoming repairs.
