Tragic Accident Near Hector Claims One Life, Injures Another

On July 21, 2024, around 3:34 PM, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call about a one-vehicle crash near the intersection of Renville County Road 22 and 850th Avenue, approximately five miles northeast of Hector, MN in Hector Township.
Emergency responders found a 1997 Ford F250 overturned at the bottom of a creek bank, though it wasn't submerged in water.
The driver, Nikolaus Beglau, 40, and passenger, Katie Dupre, 36, both from Hector, MN, were trapped inside the vehicle. Both were extricated and received emergency medical attention.
Beglau was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN, with unspecified injuries.
Sadly, despite resuscitation efforts, Dupre was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations indicate that the vehicle, traveling northbound on Renville County Road 22, crossed into the opposite lane, entered a ditch, launched off a creek embankment, and landed on its roof at the bottom of the creek bank.
Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Hector and Buffalo Lake Fire Departments, Hector and Buffalo Lake Ambulance Services, Alina Health EMS, Mayo Clinic Helicopter, North Air Care, Hector and Buffalo Lake Police Departments, and the Minnesota State Patrol.
Marshall School Board Seeks New Members: Election Details Inside
There are three open seats on the Marshall Public Schools Board up for grabs this fall in the Nov. 5 general election.
If you're interested in running, applications will be accepted from July 30 until 5:00 PM on August 13, 2024.
You can file your candidacy at the school district clerk's office. To help potential candidates, an informational session will be held on July 30 at 4:30 PM at the public school district.
The seats currently held by board chair Matt Coleman and directors Bill Swope and Anne Marie Vorbach are up for election.
Vorbach, a clinical psychologist for Avera Marshall, was recently sworn in to finish out Bill Mulso’s term after he stepped down. She has a daughter who graduated from Marshall High School and a son who currently attends.
Swope, who served as an elementary school principal in Marshall for 28 years and has been on the board for eight years, began his teaching career in St. Paul. Coleman has been on the board since 2006 and has lived in Marshall since 1986. His three daughters graduated from Marshall High School, and he currently works as a hog procurement manager for Smithfield Foods.
Board members will be elected to a three-year term. Superintendent Jeremy Williams mentioned that they're looking for candidates passionate about schools and kids and eager to be involved.
Candidates must be eligible voters, at least 21 years old, residents of the district for at least 30 days before the election, and free of any felonies.
For more updates and information, you can check the district website.
