Celebrate Boulder Creek’s 10th Anniversary This Week

Boulder Creek Assisted Living & Memory Care is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of community events.

Starting today, a scavenger hunt around Marshall will begin, with clues posted on Boulder Creek’s website and Facebook page. Additionally, the Scotty Biggs Barbecue food truck will be at Boulder Creek on Tuesday from 11 AM to 2 PM.

Opened on June 30, 2014, Boulder Creek was established by the Carr family, Jim Knudson, and Jamie Engers Lanners to address the need for memory and respite care in the Marshall community. The facility features two distinct neighborhoods for residents with dementia, providing specialized care and activities.

Over the past decade, Boulder Creek has incorporated new technology, training, an on-site therapy dog, and a community dementia lending library into its services. Due to COVID precautions, large public events are limited, but residents and their families will have private celebrations.

The community can still participate in the anniversary by finding purple "boulders" hidden around Marshall, with clues released daily from July 22-28 at 9 AM and 2 PM. Prizes await those who find the rocks.

Later this fall, Boulder Creek will host virtual dementia tours as part of the "Shine A Light on Dementia" initiative in October.

Granite Falls Man Admits Guilt in St. Catherine’s University Assault Incident

A Granite Falls man, Keanu Labatte, has pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Ramsey County, according to court records.

Labatte, 20, faced multiple charges including second-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, domestic assault by strangulation, and making threats of violence.

These charges stem from a September incident at St. Catherine’s University in St. Paul, where Labatte allegedly held his girlfriend against her will for three days and assaulted her.

The victim was able to contact law enforcement when she was allowed to go to the cafeteria for food.

Court documents also revealed that Labatte was on probation for a restraining order violation in Yellow Medicine County in 2023.

At a hearing on July 12, Labatte pleaded guilty to the charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for November 4.
