June Storms Cause $78K in Damages in Lyon County

Lyon County declared a state of emergency due to June's heavy rains, which caused $78,244 in damages.

This declaration will help the county access state funding for repairs.

The most significant damage was at Garvin Park, totaling over $63,000.

Four townships reported damages, with Shelburne Township at $1,900, Fairview Township at $5,000, Lake Marshall Township at $6,000, and Stanley Township at $2,000.

The heavy rain led to flood warnings and damage to fields, roads, and culverts in southwest Minnesota.

Wanted Man Surrenders After Rooftop Standoff in Redwood Falls

On July 16, 2024, police officers in Redwood Falls responded to a tense situation involving 29-year-old Joshua David Pantizke of Belview, MN.

Pantizke, who was wanted on arrest warrants in Sibley and Hennepin Counties, was found working on the roof of a building under renovation at 240 South Washington Street.

When officers arrived and instructed Pantizke to come down, he refused and became agitated, threatening to jump. This prompted the activation of the Brown/Lyon/Redwood/Renville Emergency Response Unit’s Negotiator Team.

After several hours of negotiation, Pantizke voluntarily descended from the roof and was taken to Centra Care-Redwood Hospital without incident. No force was used during the resolution.

The operation was assisted by the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office, Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Lower Sioux Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, BLRR/ERU Negotiator Team, Centra Care Ambulance, and Redwood Falls Fire Department.
