Celebrate July 4th on July 5th: Marshall Postpones Festivities Due to Weather

Marshall's Fourth of July fireworks and festivities were rescheduled to today, July 5 due to storm forecasts, giving us two days to celebrate!

Yesterday's weather was rainy and stormy, but today looks perfect for the festivities.

The events will go on as planned: fireworks at 10:15 p.m. in Independence Park, food vendors from 5 p.m., the Marshall Municipal Band at 7:30 p.m., and Joslynn Rose performing at 8:45 p.m.

Enjoy the celebrations and the beautiful weather as we come together as a community!

Emergency Sirens Coming to Garvin and Twin Lakes Parks

Lyon County parks attract many campers each summer, but there's no reliable way to warn them of severe weather.

Sheriff Eric Wallen proposed installing emergency sirens at Garvin Park and Twin Lakes Park, citing sporadic cell service at Garvin Park.

The commissioners approved a $51,000 quote for the sirens from Federal Warning Systems.

Wallen highlighted the difficulty deputies face in personally notifying campers during severe weather. The sirens will be installed on 50-foot poles using public safety funding.

The proposal also prompted discussion about other areas in the county lacking weather warning sirens.

Marshall Farmers Market Kicks Off July 6

The Marshall Farmers Market will open on tomorrow, Saturday, July 6, and run every Saturday through October from 7:30 a.m. to noon.

The Farmers Market is located in the parking lot behind the Marshall Area YMCA and will feature fresh local produce and goods.

Visitors can support local farmers and enjoy a community atmosphere.

Be sure to stop by and pick up some fresh produce while supporting the community.
