Federal Aid on the Way for 22 Flooded Counties in Minnesota

Governor Tim Walz announced that 22 counties in Minnesota have received a federal disaster declaration from FEMA due to severe flooding over the past two weeks.

This declaration will provide essential resources for debris removal, emergency measures, and infrastructure repairs.

The counties approved include:

  • Blue Earth 

  • Carver 

  • Cass 

  • Cook 

  • Cottonwood 

  • Faribault 

  • Fillmore 

  • Freeborn 

  • Goodhue 

  • Jackson 

  • Lake 

  • Le Sueur 

  • Murray 

  • Nobles 

  • Pipestone 

  • Rice 

  • Rock 

  • St. Louis 

  • Steele 

  • Wabasha 

  • Waseca 

  • Watonwan 

Ongoing damage assessments may lead to additional counties being included.

This aid is crucial for the recovery and rebuilding efforts in the affected communities.

Say Goodbye to 7-Digit Dialing in Minnesota’s 507 Area Code

Starting July 30, residents in Minnesota's 507 area code must use 10-digit dialing (area code + phone number) for local calls.

Seven-digit dialing will no longer work.

By August 30, new numbers might include the 924 area code.

Existing numbers won't change, and the cost and service coverage will remain the same.

Emergency numbers like 911 and 988 will still use three digits.

Residents should update devices and printed materials to reflect the change.
