Highway 59 Repairs: Lane Closures and Delays Expected Starting July 8

Concrete repair work is set to begin on Highway 59 in Lyon County, starting July 8.

The project will cover a stretch of the highway from the intersection with U.S. Highway 14 to the junction with State Highway 23. This maintenance work is expected to last for several weeks, with completion projected by early August.

During the construction period, traffic will be managed with lane closures and the use of flaggers to direct vehicles.

Motorists should anticipate delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible to avoid congestion.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) emphasized the importance of this repair work to ensure the longevity and safety of the roadway.

The project involves removing and replacing deteriorated concrete panels, which will improve the overall driving experience and reduce the need for frequent maintenance.

Southwest Initiative Foundation Seeks Input on Child Care Licensing Process

Child care providers across southwest Minnesota are invited to participate in upcoming listening sessions hosted by the Southwest Initiative Foundation (SWIF) regarding proposed new licensing standards by the Department of Human Services (DHS).

SWIF, emphasizing the importance of child care services in the region, will facilitate these sessions in Granite Falls, Worthington, and Willmar.

These sessions aim to gather feedback crucial for shaping future standards and informing legislators about local concerns.

Currently, southwest Minnesota supports 580 family-based child care providers and 85 child care centers within SWIF's 18-county service area.

Despite this, there has been a decline in available child care providers and spots for children, underscoring the economic impact of child care availability.

Participants, including child care providers, economic development professionals, and community leaders, can join either in-person or virtual sessions from July 8-11.

These sessions will feature presentations on draft standards followed by facilitated discussions to gather comprehensive feedback.
