Drug Sale in Pipestone Ends in Murder Plea for St. Paul Woman

A 26-year-old woman from St. Paul, previously convicted of drug sales in Lyon County, has now pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in connection with a fatal fentanyl overdose in Pipestone County.

The woman, Miranda Sanow, entered her plea in Pipestone County District Court as part of a plea deal.

Court documents state that Sanow was accused of selling fentanyl to a man who was later discovered dead at a Pipestone residence in 2022.

The man's autopsy revealed the presence of fentanyl and norfentanyl in his system, with investigators linking Sanow to the incident through digital evidence such as CashApp transactions and cell phone records.

Sanow had earlier pleaded guilty to third-degree narcotics sales in Lyon County, where a search of her Balaton apartment by the Brown Lyon Redwood Renville Drug Task Force uncovered fentanyl prepared for sale, along with methamphetamine and marijuana.

Sanow is now awaiting sentencing, with the court having ordered a pre-sentencing investigation to be conducted.

Klobuchar Learns Firsthand About Organic Farming Needs in Lyon County

Senator Amy Klobuchar visited a farm in Lyon County to gain a firsthand perspective on the challenges faced by organic farmers.

During her visit to Jonathan and Carolyn Olson’s farm, which has been in operation since 1913, Klobuchar learned about the day-to-day issues that farmers encounter, from equipment needs to the impact of weather conditions.

The Olsons shared insights into their farming practices, including crop rotation and the use of cover crops, as well as the difficulties they face in weed management due to the limitations of organic farming.

The tour provided an opportunity to discuss broader agricultural policy needs, such as the importance of technical education and workforce development in supporting the agriculture industry.

The Olsons emphasized the need for skilled workers like diesel mechanics and welders and highlighted ongoing supply chain issues that affect the availability of specialized farm equipment parts.

Klobuchar expressed her intent to bring these real-world examples back to Washington, D.C., to help inform future legislation, particularly the upcoming Farm Bill.

She indicated that there is still a possibility of passing the Farm Bill this year, despite challenges posed by upcoming elections and potential changes in leadership.
