Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Investigates After Gunfire Erupts in 15-Hour Standoff in Clarkfield

A 15-hour standoff between law enforcement and 27-year-old Kasey Paul Willander of Clarkfield ended in a shooting that left Willander in stable condition.

The situation began on September 14 when Yellow Medicine County deputies responded to a welfare check, and Willander, armed with a rifle, fled to a nearby home.

SWAT teams were called in after failed negotiations, and the standoff saw multiple exchanges of gunfire. Willander was shot twice by officers and airlifted to Hennepin Healthcare.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is investigating the use of force.

YES! House Renovation in Granite Falls Boosted by $50K Grant

A community arts space in Granite Falls, the YES! House, is nearing completion thanks to a $50,000 T-Mobile Hometown Grant.

The funds will support renovations to its lower level, including the addition of a recording studio, classroom, and multimedia lab.

Managed by the Department of Public Transformation (DoPT), the YES! House offers gathering and performance spaces to foster community engagement.

Since its launch in 2018, the project has made significant progress, with over 99% of the renovation campaign funded.

The final goal is to finish the lower level over the winter.
